Nathan Nichols was born and raised in Keene, New Hampshire and attended high school in Gardener, Massachusetts - the former furniture capital of the United States. Nathan was born into the furniture industry, working in various furniture manufacturing plants alongside his father and grandfather during his teens. Nathan attended the University of Houston where he majored in Interior Design. After graduation, he worked for several different furniture stores in the New Hampshire area before moving to Wisconsin in 1990. Nathan settled in the Appleton area where he worked as a design consultant for Drexel Heritage Gallery.
A career milestone took place in 1993 when Betty Johnson of Betty Johnson Interiors introduced Nathan to Natalie Kohler Black who was the president of the Interior Design Group for Kohler Company, producers of Baker furniture.
